Ethan’s Vengeance of Love - Chapter 71
Why is she so different from others?
Alice’s light smile faded as she looked at Ethan. “Mr. Knight, are we still talking?” she asked, unsure
what was going through his mind.
I would probably pass out from anger if we kept talking. The nerve of her to say that I am infuriating to
deal with. The same goes for her, too, Ethan thought.
He had been silent all along, and Alice took that as a cue to return to her room. “Since you have
nothing to talk about, I will go back to my room and sleep,” she said, preparing to leave.
As she reached out to open Caroline’s room door, Ethan stopped her. “Isn’t it time to go back to your
room to sleep? Is this your room?” he asked, blocking her from opening the door.
This was obviously Caroline’s room, not her room.
They were married and had a marriage certificate, so they should be sleeping in the same room.
“This is Caroline’s room. Mrs. Knight arranged my room across from here to take care of Caroline.
However, she hasn’t fully adapted in these few days and needs me to accompany her,” Alice explained
truthfully, not knowing what Ethan was thinking.
However, Ethan’s eyebrows furrowed slightly. Wait, the room across from here? That’s supposed to be
the guest room, isn’t it? How could that be her room?

“Let me remind you that we are married and have a marriage certificate. As the Young Madam of the
Knight Family, you should sleep in the master bedroom,” he said firmly. He felt that he had already
made his statement very clear.
Alice looked at him with surprise and disbelief. “If I sleep in the master bedroom, where will you sleep?
I’m just here to accompany Caroline, and it’s not appropriate for me to take your room,” she countered,
clearly indicating her confusion and hesitation.
Ethan was at a loss for words. Didn’t I just make it clear that we should sleep in the master bedroom
together as a married couple? What does she mean by saying that she’s here to accompany Caroline?
She’s my wife now! Shouldn’t she be accompanying me instead?
“It’s getting late, and you must be tired from your trip. Let’s not discuss this further tonight. Remember
that you promised to keep Caroline company tomorrow.” Alice felt that it was not appropriate for her
and Ethan to discuss these issues here in the middle of the night.
“By the way, since you’ll be here to keep Caroline company tomorrow, I think it’s best if I give you both
some space. I’ll go out and avoid being in the way.” She tried to explain her intention clearly as being
mindful of the agreement she had signed with Britney, which stated that she couldn’t use Caroline as
an excuse to intentionally interact with Ethan, as that was what he had wanted.
Since Ethan would be at home tomorrow to accompany Caroline, Alice would go out and avoid them
both to spare herself the unnecessary misunderstanding.
Ethan, who was usually calm and composed, widened his eyes in surprise and looked at her. What did
she mean by saying that if I accompanied Caroline tomorrow, she would head out to avoid being in the
way?
What does she mean by that?
However, Alice didn’t say anything else. She didn’t give him a chance to inquire further, either. She just
pushed the door open and walked in, then without hesitation, she closed the door and left him outside
once again.
Ethan stood there, looking at the closed door without moving as if he hadn’t snapped back to his
senses yet.
His thoughts were interrupted by the sound of his phone ringing, and it brought him back to reality. He
quickly fished his phone out of his pocket and answered the call.
“Boss, are you coming back? Do you want to come out and sit for a while?” It was Chris who called.
“Okay,” Ethan replied as he felt like he needed to take a break.
When he arrived, Derek and Chris were already there. Although they had arranged to meet for drinks,
they didn’t plan to get wasted.
Ethan sat down silently without ordering any drinks or speaking. Although he was typically reserved, he
seemed particularly quiet today.
Derek noticed and approached him with a glass of wine, asking, “Is everything okay? Are you not
feeling well?”
Ethan didn’t respond, but Chris chimed in, “Well, he did marry someone like Alice. It’s not surprising if
he’s not in the best mood.”
Ethan suddenly looked up at the people in front of him and declared, “I’m cold, stubborn, and
sarcastic…”
Everyone in the room looked at him with confusion, wondering what caused their boss’ unusual
behavior. What’s wrong with Boss today? Is he having a self-criticism session?
“Boss, you’re usually cold, but that remark about you being sarcastic doesn’t fit at all. You hardly ever
speak, so whom would you be sarcastic with? It would be a miracle if anyone could provoke you to
unleash sarcasm on them.” Chris chuckled. If their boss were to use sarcasm, it would be a joke.
Bradley, who had accompanied Ethan, pursed his lips slightly. It seemed that there was indeed
someone who could make Ethan sarcastic—it was none other than Alice, the current Young Madam of
the Knight Family.
The conversation between Ethan and Alice was quite frustrating, and it was clear that she was angry
with him that day.
“Boss, is something bothering you? Do you feel uncomfortable and trapped in your marriage?” Chris
believed his usually composed and wise boss must have been aggravated by someone for him to utter
those words. Alice must have triggered him.
“Boss, just ignore her. Pretend she doesn’t exist, and don’t allow her to take advantage of you.” Chris
considered himself experienced in dealing with women.
Ethan turned his gaze toward Chris and gave him a sweeping glance. Ignore her? Pretend she doesn’t
exist? He felt that doing so would only please her more.
Bradley remembered that when Ethan returned home, he was still in a good mood, but after visiting the
Knight Residence, he became depressed.
Who in the Knight Family could have made him so upset? Certainly no one.
However, Bradley could think of one person capable of doing so—Alice, who had been confrontational
with Ethan since their first meeting. Is it possible that she’s the one who makes him upset?
When he heard of Chris’ evaluation of Alice, Bradley felt it was necessary to defend her. “Young
Madam Knight is quite naive and lovely. She’s someone easy to get along with, too,” he said.
Ethan suddenly turned his gaze toward Bradley. The look in his eyes was as cold as ice. Bradley was
so scared that he trembled and almost collapsed onto his knees. To have garnered such a reaction
from Ethan had only proved that Bradley’s previous assumption had been correct.
“It’s cute to be naive when you’re a kid, but it’s not the same for a grown-up. That’s why it’s not about
her being naive, but rather, it’s about her acting foolishly. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have handed over
the Woland Group to the Yeager Family,” said Chris as he instinctively refuted Bradley’s statement, not
noticing Ethan’s subtle, odd behavior.
Ethan’s eyes flickered slightly. Is she stupid? Not at all. In fact, she is quite formidable when she argues
with me.
“Wasn’t it said that she handed over the Woland Group to the Yeager Family because she was too in
love with Bruce?” Irvin recalled the rumors he had heard online and chimed in subconsciously.
Everyone knew that Ethan had married Alice for Caroline’s sake and would never fall in love with Alice,
so Irvin had no qualms about saying this.
