Chapter 29 My Darling Is So Smart
Dominic’s gaze reflected his firm resolve as he smiled gently at Calliope.
Then, he turned toward Jonah with a murderous look on his face as he glared daggers at the
latter.
The security guard standing by the hotel’s entrance was about to take a step forward, but a stony glare from Dominic instantly made him back away-
Jonah shuddered all over, intimidated by the man’s imposing aura “W-Who are you?” He got up from the ground with much effort and staggered, unable to regain his balance.
“Who exactly are you? H1-How dare you hit me in broad daylight? I-”
Dominic did not waste time chatting nonsense with him. He stepped forward and grabbed Jonah by his collar before dragging him to the hotel’s backyard.
Calliope quickly went after then, worried that Dominic would be at a disadvantage. However, before she even reached them, sounds of shrill wailing and begging for mercy could be heard.
Jonah was beaten up so badly that he had a bloody nose and a swollen face. Burying his face in his hands, he begged for mercy while kneeling on the ground. Dominic lifted his leg and kicked him right in his chest. Before the latter could even get up, he landed another kick on his head and stomped on half of his face.
Jonal screamed at the top of his lungs, “P-Please, g-good sir. I-I was wrong! I won’t do it anymore!
P-Please!TM
“Stay away from her in the future.” Dominic was expressionless as he said coldly. “I won’t be letting you go so easily the next time I see you hara**ing my wife.”
Stunned, Jonah widened his eyes as he squirmed on the ground, much to his difficulty. His jawbone seemed to have been dislocated from the stomp earlier.
Dominic looked down at Jonah, his gaze shifting to the injured man’s crotch, and he instantly saw that his pants were wel
He snorted and lifted his leg immediately, feeling disgusted.
“Scram!”
Jonah could not care less about the pain he felt as he scurried away in fear, almost bumping into Calliope in the process.
She jumped at the sight of his wretched state. Thinking that a terrible fight had broken out, Calliope quickly went to check on Dominic. Despite her worries, he was fine. The man brushed off the dust on his sleeves before walking out of the backyard with an indifferent look on his face.
Calliope’s eyes welled up with tears, and a relieved smile appeared on her face. She instantly buried herself in his arms.
“Did I… cause you any problems? I just beat up your superior, Dominic asked in a low voice.
Hearing that, Calliope shook her head fervently,
“Fighting is all I know. You’ll have to get used to it in the future,” he added as he stroked her hair.
Calliope looked up at him, and when their eyes met, they burst into laughter simultaneously, as if they just had a telepathic connection.
Dominic caressed her head and said, “You should just quit this job. It’s tiring and doesn’t pay much, and now that there’s a grudge between you and your superior, he might make things even more difficult for you in the future.”
“That won’t happen.” Calliope smiled.
Her response stunned him, and he watched her pull a recording pen out of her pocket. She pushed the button on it, and the conversation from earlier started to play.
“You’re so much better than Melissa! If that b*tch’s uncle isn’t a shareholder, I couldn’t even be bothered about her… Even though I can’t give you a proper title, Cally, I can give you everything else as long as you’re willing to stay by my side! I can introduce you to more clients or help you. clinch more business deals…
Dominic narrowed his eyes and stared at Calliope meaningfully.
I can’t believe she managed to remain calm and collected in such a dangerous situation. She even knew to collect evidence of his hara**ment!
That way, even if Jonah wanted to make things difficult for Calliope, he wouldn’t dare to act. rashly. If the evidence were to be revealed, Jonah’s reputation would suffer a devastating blow, and he would also end up offending Melissa. When that happened, he wouldn’t be able to survive in this industry anymore.
“Heh. Turns out my wife is so smart!” Dominic praised.
Smiling smugly, Calliope lifted her chin and answered, “Of course!”
“But who is Cally? Isn’t your name Penelope?”
Words eluded Calliope.
Her face turned pale, and her legs almost gave way. Dominic held her waist as an intrigued smile appeared on his chiseled face.
The masculine aura he was exuding contained overwhelming pressure, making her feel incredibly guilty.
“Um…” She racked her brain for an explanation. “My name is indeed Penelope. Cally is just my nickname.”
“How does that man know your nickname?”
Calliope pursed her lips into a thin line, and her ears were burning bright red.
Biting the bullet, she continued fabricating a lie. “I… I don’t know where he heard it from either. We were from the same university. Maybe he heard my friends calling me that, so he started using the same nickname too. In any case, that man’s a crazy pervert! You did well beating him up today, Hubby. I’ll make some braised pork ribs and fried fish for dinner to reward you,” she said, smiling sheepishly.
Dominic merely smiled and stopped questioning her. Circling the woman in his arms, he then strode out of the hotel with her.
Rumors spread like wildfire around the company the next day. People avoided Calliope when they saw her and gossiped about her behind her back.
She could feel the strange looks directed at her the moment she stepped foot into the company. Hence, she guessed that news about Jonah being beaten up had spread. I won’t say that this has nothing to do with me, but when worse comes to worst, I will not hesitate to expose everything directly!
“Come here for a moment, Calliope!” Amala called out to her softly.
Despite not knowing what her colleague was up to, Calliope still followed her to a corner.
Amala was a cheery and kind person who shared a close relationship with Calliope in the office. As such, she was the most concerned about Calliope now that something had happened.
Wearing a troubled expression, she asked, “Calliope, did you hear what everyone is talking about you?”
“I know. This is about Jonah being beaten up, right?” Calliope got straight to the point. “Bur there’s a reason behind this. If the higher-ups want to investigate it further, then I’ll-”
“That’s not the only point! Cally, are you hiding something from everyone?” Amala whispered.
